Koh Samui keeps its own calendar. While much of Thailand follows one monsoon pattern, this corner of the Gulf marches to a slightly different beat.

One of the quirks of Koh Samui is that its weather does not match the rest of Thailand. The island sits in the Gulf, sheltered from the main monsoon, which gives it a longer dry season and its own distinct rhythm. Knowing it helps you plan the perfect trip.

The dry season: December to April

This is the island at its finest. Skies are clear, the sea is calm, and the days are warm without being oppressive. It is peak season for good reason, and the most popular months are January through March. Book well ahead for these.

The shoulder months: May to September

A wonderful and underrated time to visit. The weather is generally good with brief, refreshing showers, the island is greener, and prices and crowds ease off. Many regulars consider this the sweet spot, plenty of sunshine with far better value.

The wetter season: October to November

So when should you come?

For guaranteed sunshine, aim for December to April. For the best balance of weather, value, and quiet, the shoulder months of May to September are hard to beat. Whenever you come, a villa on the hillside means a private pool and that endless sea view, rain or shine.
